Hazel trees

Hazels provide excellent winter interest with their attractive catkins.

  • Hazel bushes

    Contorta

    Corylus avellana
This is the most popular of the contorted hazels, with yellow catkins, and particularly attractive in winter.
  • Hazel bushes

    Red Majestic

    Corylus avellana
A red-leaved form of the contorted or twisted hazel.

How to choose Hazel trees

Whilst hazel bushes are usually grown for their nuts, they also have useful ornamental value - particularly in the winter, when the catkins add colour to the winter garden and contrast with the bare branches.
