Black Beauty is named for the rich dark purple colour of its flowers (although they are not black). The flowers have white centres.
Black Beauty is slow-growing, eventually producing an upright conical form.
Black Beauty is one of a number of Magnolias developed by Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, near New York. It was developed in the 1990s and released in 2001.
In Magnolia circles the term "black" generally refers to flowers with the darkest purple hues.
