The species Ginkgo biloba is the best known form of this ancient family of trees.
They have interesting leaves, which turn an attractive milky yellow in autumn.
The fissured bark is also a feature.
Gingkos grow with a columnar habit, with branches emerging at right angles. In good conditions the tree should reach a height of about 6m in the longer term.
Ginkgos have been used in traditional medicines for many years, with numerous claimed health benefits, but also many questionable side effects.

Gingkos do best in a sheltered location, and well-drained soil is particularly important.
