Pink Charm

Sorbus vilmorinii
Pink Charm

Pink Charm is a superior form of the rowan species Sorbus vilmorinii, originating from China. It features large berries which remain on the tree throughout the autumn. The berries are initially red, turning to pink in the autumn, and then gradually to pale pink as autumn progresses.

The long fern-like green leaves are also a particular attraction.

It has a more spreading habit than other rowans, but remains a small tree and is a good choice if space is limited.

How to grow

We sometimes have Pink Charm available as a "top-worked" tree, grafted on to a long clear stem, which helps to accentuate its large feathered leaves.

History

Sorbus vilmorinii is named after the 19th century French collector Maurice de Vilmorin, who obtained seeds of this species from China. By rowan standards it can be quite long-lived, up to 100 years.
