Crataegus monogyna is the native common hawthorn, a common feature in British hedgerows.
It produces masses of small fragrant white flowers at the end of spring, which are loaded with pollen and nectar and very attractive to bees.
The leaves are a glossy dark green, turning yellow in the autumn, when the tree also bears a crop of red haws.
The dense thorny stems provide a useful barrier.
Sorry we have not produced any trees of this variety this season.
Crataegus monogyna will grow in most well-drained soils. It is very hardy, and tolerates pollution and coastal conditions.
